Join Colorado Canyons Association and the Bureau of Land Management
for a family friendly, outdoor stewardship event!
If you've ever been out to Devils Canyon in the McInnis Canyons NCA, you've probably seen a lot of happy pups - and their waste - out on the trails!
When it comes to "leaving no trace" our pups need a hand, so that's what we're gonna give 'em this National Public Lands Day and you're invited to help!
As in years past for our “Great Poop Scoop” event, we'll have a table at the trailhead with info about the NCA, tear-off maps of the trail system, a game for the kids, some sweet treats, and of course, lots of poop bags! Plus, we'll have free t-shirts, federal parks day passes, and raffle prizes for folks who show up and help clean-up!
We will have an additional restoration project for volunteers hoping to get their hands dirty and help with some trail maintenance along the D5 & D7 loops. There are a number of social trails and unnecessary trail widenings developing along these loops, which we have been monitoring, and could use your help to naturalize and deter other visitors from worsening or trampling further—in hopes that in a few years the vegetation in the area can begin to grow and thrive again!
When you register, please select which project you would like to assist with day of, but all will be welcome to the same free swag and raffle prize opportunities.
For questions or more information contact our Volunteer & Outreach Coordinator, Morgan Rossway, morgan@canyonsassociation.org.
Why are we picking up dog poop? Isn't it natural fertilizer for plants and grass?
Actually, according to the EPA, dog poo can be as toxic as chemical and oil spills. It's the #3 cause of water pollution in the U.S. and 1 gram of dog feces contains 23 million fecal bacteria.
