What should I expect on the river?

Ruby-Horsethief

Get ready for a scenic float through the Ruby-Horsethief section of the Colorado River, from Loma, Colorado, to Westwater, Utah. This 25-mile stretch of mostly flat-water contains some Class I and II rapids, which offer some fun splashy waves. This section of the Colorado river runs through beautiful red rock canyons and has many day hike opportunities for you to explore. Escalante to Bridgeport

When you embark on a float on the Gunnison River through the Dominguez-Escalante National Conservation Area, you will experience breath-taking views of red-rock canyons and sandstone bluffs. Sit back, relax, and keep your eyes peeled for wildlife.

This class II section of river is home to many species of animals including bighorn sheep, mule deer, golden eagles, collared lizards and more.  Be prepared for sunny skies and warm weather with the occasional splash from a wave. For more information on this float and the Dominguez-Escalante National Conservation area, follow this link to the BLM's website.

Gunnison Forks to Austin

Enjoy a float on the Class II waters of the Gunnison River. Situated below the Gunnison Gorge in a National Conservation Area, this scenic section of river offers fun splashy waves with excellent opportunities for wildlife viewing. Enjoy your riverside lunch, as well as a stop to view the Eagle Rock Shelter, an archeological site. As you float along the Gunnison River you’ll see many people fishing, on Stand Up Paddleboards, and enjoying this beautiful section of water.

What do I need to pack for one day on the river?

On the river, guests should wear clothes that will dry quickly and keep them cool and comfortable in hot daytime temperatures. Colorado weather can change quickly; individuals should have clothing so they are prepared to be outside in heat, rain, wind, cold, and bright sunshine.

This packing list is comprehensive and includes everything needed for the trip. We will have water-tight “dry bags” for guests to pack their personal gear inside. 

What do I need to pack for my overnight river trip?

On the river, guests should wear clothes that dry quickly and keep them cool and comfortable in hot daytime temperatures. At night, the weather will be cooler and guests should have multiple clothing layers to keep you warm. Colorado weather can change quickly; guests should be prepared to be outside in heat, rain, wind, cold, and bright sunshine.

This packing list is comprehensive and includes everything needed for the trip. All personal items will be packed into waterproof drybags. To ensure adequate space on the rafts, please do not overpack.

How do I get there?
