Every year, volunteers come together around National Public Lands Day to help restore and improve public lands in their backyard. Join CCA and the Bureau of Land Management on September 16th to help restore critical habitat for the threatened Gunnison sage-grouse in Gunnison Gorge NCA and give back to your public land!
When: Saturday, September 16th from 9 AM - 2 PM
Where: Gunnison Gorge NCA; near Crawford (exact coordinates will be provided upon registration).
What you’ll be doing: Volunteers will be using loppers and hand saws to cut down juniper and pinion saplings that would otherwise become perches for predators, scaring away the sage-grouse. The felled trees help retain soil moisture and provide habitat for small animals, improving the landscape for Gunnison sage-grouse habitat.
Please bring: Food, water, work gloves, eye protection, long pants, and closed-toed shoes
We’ll provide: Tools, orange vests, and National Public Lands Day t-shirts
We are excited to be joined this year by members of the Black Canyon Audubon Society and Whit Blair from the US Fish & Wildlife Service, who will give a brief talk on Sage Grouse Habitat to kick off the event!
RSVP required.
