From seeds to sagebrush! Join the Bureau of Land Management and CCA for the final phase of the Sieber Fire restoration project on Friday, September 17th.
When: Friday, September 17th from 9 AM - ~4 PM
Where: The Sieber Fire burn site in Black Ridge Canyons Wilderness (~1 hour drive from Grand Junction). Exact location will be provided upon registration. Moderate vehicle clearance is needed to access the site.
What you’ll be doing: In June 2020, the Sieber Fire burned 1,094 acres of pristine landscape in McInnis Canyons NCA. In order to restore the native habitat, the BLM put a multi-phase project into action. In fall 2020, volunteers collected sagebrush seed from the surrounding landscape. The seeds were sent to the Upper Colorado Environmental Plant Center to be grown into 5,000+ sagebrush seedlings. We are now ready to put the seedlings back into the landscape where they belong! Get your green thumb ready and join us for a day of planting sagebrush seedlings; this involves digging holes, planting, and building small structures to protect the seedlings. There is a job for everyone!
Please bring: Lunch, water, work gloves, eye protection, long pants, and closed-toed shoes
We’ll provide: All necessary tools and light refreshments
RSVP required.
