Celebrate the anniversary of the Wilderness Act with a free hike led by Colorado Canyons Association and the BLM. We’ll take you into the heart of Black Ridge Canyons Wilderness, visiting the spectacular and remote arches of Mee Canyon. Participants will learn about the geologic forces that create these natural wonders, as well as the importance of having protected areas like Black Ridge Canyons Wilderness. This is event is free for the public, but registration is required through CCA.
When: Saturday, September 11th; we will meet at the trailhead at 9 AM. Expect a full day of hiking.
Where: Mee Canyon in Black Ridge Canyons Wilderness; coordinates for the exact location will be shared upon registration. A high-clearance, 4WD vehicle is recommended.
Difficulty and terrain: ~9 miles round trip. Moderate to strenuous; mostly on a old 2-track road, but will encounter cross-country travel and some scrambling. Please evaluate your fitness level before signing up for this hike, as it will be a long day in the backcounty.
What to bring: Water, food, comfortable shoes for hiking, layers, sun protection, and WAG bags
