Live from the Field
This spring, CCA’s signature event, Nature Knowledge Days, went virtual.
Over the course of 7 days in late April and early May, 17 classes were reached by CCA staff, alongside specialists from the Bureau of Land Management, Metcalf Archaeology, The Nature Connection, and our own volunteer base. We educated a total of 340 students!
Armed with our trusty tripod and a cell phone, CCA live streamed into classes from the field – meaning our staff, coupled with one of our partners or volunteers, spoke to students from Skinner Cabin, in the Fruita Paleo Area, and the Gunnison Forks Overlook. Teachers were able to select their stream-in times based on what their students were interested in learning about. We had guests ranging from archaeologists and geologists to wildlife specialists.
Each session consisted of staff discussing public lands, NCAs, and a little history about the land around them, wherever that ended up being. For example, at the Fruita Paleo area, students got a tour of the dinosaurs named after Fruita! After these talks, students then got the chance to ask their own questions to the specialists.
A huge thank you to everyone who helped us with this, and we hope to see everyone in person during our fall Nature Knowledge Days!
